Our Story

ARS Farm Design started with the question: what would make for a satisfying life?

Teaching a class on contributing to a more sustainable future through small actions helped fuel the inception of the brand. Inspired by the concept of Climate Beneficial Wool, we asked "Can we make climate beneficial dyes?"

Drawing from our own & others academic research on natural dyes, we want to recreate all the hues possible that you see today made from synthetic dyes. Not just to prove that it's possible, but to show that there's a better way to create color than polluting chemicals.

We are committed to sustainability & eco-conscious practices. We grow our dye plants in a way that draws carbon out of the air & buries it in the soil, creating nutrient rich soil for our dyes. In addition to flowers for dye, we plant ones for native pollinators to help support our native ecosystem. When we are using dyes that we haven't grown ourselves, we make sure that they're from a source that shares our commitment to the environment.
